Surviving the Barn Roof Replacement

Here's our newest addition, Caprikoda's Shooting Star hunkered down with the kids.  She's probably thinking that this place is crazy since the roof was taken off the barn this morning.  It is so exciting to be done with the roof officially today.  What a great Birthday present for myself!  And I'm really enjoying my new goat.  She has the sweetest disposition.
Tomorrow three of our little boys leave for their new home.  It will be nice to see them off.  And after all our babies are gone at the end of June, we will be adding another new addition to the herd.  Gladdie Acres Eye Candy.  I just love the name:)  It will be very exciting.  This is a great year for our herd and it will just keep getting better!
Bloodwork has been sent for confirmation on our fall girls.  Fingers crossed that they all come back positive.  This will make for a busy up-coming season.  Keep your eye out for more future kids.

Starting the Garden

The garden has begun!  I can't wait to see the harvest.  And its amazing the we can grow artichokes out here.  Unfortunately, our asparagus beds didn't take.  So next year, we will try again.  So far we have corn, brussel sprouts, squash, watermelon, broccoli, onions, cabbage and eggplants.  Oh and lots of carrots.  This should be an interesting season.

The spring continues here.  We've had off and on again wet weather.  And our pastures are growing high with local grass hay.  I'm waiting to mow once the hay reseeds itself.  Our little tiny goats almost disappear in the tall grasses.  We will be acquiring another excellent dairy goat at the end of June.  Welcome Gladdie Acres Eye Candy.  I love the name, - super cute.  I will update her info with a photo as soon as she comes home.

The boys are all clipped and fesh for summer.  Mani looks like a million bucks.  Next up is tattooing and then we'll see the baby goats off to their new homes.  It is always exciting to see them born and help them get off to a healthy start.
Its been a good season so far.  We should have more babies this summer and fall as well.  We are looking forward to adding our new doe, Caprikodas PTL Shooting Star soon to the herd.  She will make an excellent addition with her generous dairy character.  I'm looking forward to milking her this fall.  Thank you Cristen!

Welcome to our farm blog!  It is exciting to be finally up and running.  We are looking  forward to spring and all the lovely sun.  The weather has been just gorgeous here, 70's and plenty of sun.  We are getting the goats ready with complete clippings.  They are loving being free of all that fur.  Of course I'm making sure to rub them down with suntan lotion.  Learned my lesson last year with some very pink goats!
We'll be taking part in linear appraisal this June and hopefully we can try some of the girls on milk test as well.  We've been milking once a day at this time.  With our new baby, Cole, time has been tight around here.
The veggie garden is planted.  Photos to follow.  Also, I'm working on our raspberry/blackberry/tayberry beds.  Keep checking back and leave us some comments.  I hope you enjoy our blog as much as we do making it.  Take care and enjoy!
